Comprehensive Pet Vaccinations
Vaccinations have proven to be an effective way to keep pets healthier and protect them from potentially fatal illnesses. Pet vaccines contain antigens, which mimic a disease-causing organism without actually causing any illness. These antigens stimulate your pet’s immune system and prompt a mild immune response. If your pet is exposed to the actual disease at a later date, their immune system will be better equipped to recognize and fight off the intruder. With this additional layer of protection in place, your pet should be able to ward off the illness completely or have a subdued response to it and recover more quickly.
Personalized Vaccination Protocols
Vaccinations are considered a medical necessity, but our veterinarians also strongly believe in providing personalized care to our patients. We know that each pet is unique so we base your pet’s vaccination protocol on individual factors such as age, lifestyle, medical requirements, and risk of exposure. After examining your pet and asking about their particular needs, we’ll then recommend a customized vaccination schedule to follow.
Core vs. Non-Core Vaccines
Vaccinations fall into two different categories: core and non-core vaccines. Core vaccines are those that are considered to be essential. Non-core may or may not be recommended for your pet based on their lifestyle or risk of exposure.
For dogs, there are two core vaccines: rabies and DHPP. DHPP offers protection against:
- Distemper
- Hepatitis
- Parainfluenza
- Parvovirus
Cats also have two core vaccines: rabies and FVRCP. FVRCP is a combination vaccine that protects against:
- Feline viral rhinotracheitis
- Calicivirus
- Panleukopenia
